One more reason to be proud of working for Vaisala!
Globally operating company Vaisala is bravely taking responsibility for the wellbeing of people and environment. The company has together with Prewise executed the Vaisala Code of Conduct online training, which goal is to communicate Vaisala’s responsible and ethical way of working to the entire personnel.
Vaisala, which develops, manufactures and markets products and services for environmental and industrial measurement, has introduced Vaisala Code of Conduct online training for its staff.

- Elearning is an excellent training environment for fairly short and compact subject matters, says Communications Specialist Marikka Nevamäki from Vaisala. |
- Vaisala is the world leading company in environmental measuring and industry’s measurement appliances. Being the pacesetter also brings responsibility. We are an active performer in the society and we want to do our part for the benefit of well-being of environment and people, says Vaisala Communications Specialist Marikka Nevamäki when explaining the background for the project.
- Code of conduct course’s primary goal is to communicate to the personnel in an interesting way how Vaisala expects its employees and partners to work responsibly and ethically – whether it has to do with other people, environment or economy, Nevamäki says on the project’s background.
“Really excellent content, one more reason to be proud of working for Vaisala!”
The training’s target group is the whole Vaisala personnel, around 1200 employees, who work in 24 offices around the world. The target is that all Vaisala employees go through the training. The training is available in Finnish and in English. The training has been in use for a couple of weeks now.
- The feedback from the course has been extremely positive. The participation percentage has been high, but we are trying to get it even higher by reminding people through different channels. The course has aroused discussion on similar themes, which is most welcome, says Nevamäki happily.

Management’s commitment extremely important
Personnel’s motivation to go through the training doesn’t emerge by itself; the topic needs to be kept on the table and we need to remind of the training through internal communication and marketing. You can never emphasize enough the management’s example and commitment to the training process.
- The management’s commitment is extremely important. At Vaisala, our Managing Director participated to the training’s internal marketing, which was terrific. In addition we have made announcements in intranet, by email and by a booklet which was distributed to everybody. The booklet can be put on the desk for example. Vaisala Corporate Responsibility Specialist Tomi Rintanen made also rounds of information briefings, says Nevamäki.
Short and compact trainings work the best
Nevamäki sees that online training’s best feature is the possibility to train compact subject matters when it suits best for the trainee.
- Elearning is an excellent training environment for fairly short and compact subject matters. I wouldn’t do longer than 30 minutes long trainings, since going through those would demand patience and good concentration from the learner. Elearning’s advantage is that the learners can do the course when it suits them best. Also it is very easy to animate the course content by different kind of exercises and examples, which helps adopting the course content.
- I at least learned during this project that in the e-learning environment, it is extremely important to know how to sum up the content and express it as simply as possible. When there is no face-to-face interaction, you have to cut down the interpretative matters to minimum.
In a successful online training’s production process the supplier’s and client’s well functioning interaction and professionalism guarantee success for both parties.
- In my opinion, in this kind of project, the most important thing is a professional project management. Other work commitments putting a strain on you, you need a project manager from the supplier’s side, who urges the client to stay on schedule and sends a reminder when client’s contribution is needed. This worked well during our collaboration with Prewise, says Nevamäki.
