OP-Pohjola Group: Cards Online Training supports efficiently card sales
Cards Online Training introduces the OP-Pohjola Group’s bank and credit cards selection and their features to the OP-Pohjola Group staff. When products change often, it is important that the product training is easily updatable and flexibly available for every staff member.
OP-Pohjola Group is Finland’s largest finance group, which has over 600 branches nationwide. Cards are one of the most important daily transaction tools for the OP-Pohjola Group’s clientele. A lot of changes are constantly being made on the card front, and thus the OP-Pohjola Group wants to effectively communicate up-to-date card information to its staff; especially for those who work daily with the bank’s customers.
- The goal of the Cards Online Training is to improve the card knowledge. Besides this, with the help of this training, we wanted to highlight and clarify some things. The person who works with customers selling cards has to know which card is the best option for each customer and for that customer’s needs, says the OP-Pohjola Group’s Development Manager Pirkko Åhman.
- We also want to make the learning of our cards easier for our new sales persons. With the help of this online training everybody can independently acquire good basic knowledge from our cards.

Online training is easy, flexible and cost-effective
OP-Pohjola Group has used e-learning as a competence development tool since 1999 already, so the company has a lot of experience from it.
- Online training is an easy and interesting way to learn and update one’s knowledge. It is also always flexibly available to everyone online. The training can be halted and later continued when the time is convenient; Åhman lists the advantages of e-learning.
- With this online training we can effectively support the card selling. We operate nationwide and we serve customers in more than 600 branches. Thus with e-learning we reach our large personnel simultaneously and cost-effectively.
The role of in-house marketing and communicating is important
Thousands of employees have already studied the Cards training. Behind the good learning results we find an efficient mode of operation and the subject’s continuous promotion.
- We launched the Cards Online Training by advertising it in our intranet, and we also informed the sales management by sending them a newsletter about it. In different training and other events we also recommended, as we still do, to study the online training, Åhman says.
- The e-learning course is available in our intranet under the title ”Learn and Teach Online”. There we have conveniently stored all our other trainings too.
Long experience of collaboration
Prewise and OP-Pohjola Group have worked in collaboration with different e-learning projects for many years already. The mode of operation is fast and effective. Cards Online Training was made with Prewise Gimlet LMS after which Prewise piloted the course and delivered the complete course to the client for the installation on the server.
OP-Pohjola Group took care of the Cards Online Training’s in-house marketing, and training’s administration, follow-up and reporting. When changes to cards are being made, the client can conveniently update the changes to the e-learning course content by themselves with the Prewise Gimlet LMS.
The training has been useful in the card selling
The employees, who have studied the Cards Online Training, have felt the e-learning to be useful for their jobs. The staff has said that the training draws a clear picture of the OP-Pohjola Group’s bank and credit cards and their features.
- Based on the feedback, the training has well supported our main target of selling the right card for each customer and for each customer’s need, Åhman says contently.
- The job was challenging with the cards’ constantly changing functions, but the collaboration with Prewise was excellent. The set timetables were followed and the goal-oriented project group members worked with enthusiasm. Overall the outcome is very successful.
- The only thing needing improvement would have been the rainy weather on the day of finishing this e-learning project, Åhman laughs.
