Prewise develops new e-learning methodology and technology

Prewise is participating in the pan-European ITEA PASSEPARTOUT Development Project in 2005-2006.

In the Passepartout project, Prewise will study and develop new methods for developing data management and competence. The aim of the research is to find new ways of exploiting learning environments and learning techniques which adapt to the user's own mode of action.

As part of the project, Prewise will extend its own Prewise Gimlet learning environment to support innovative TV and mobile operating environments.

The Passepartout Project studies and develops new adaptive TV-type transmission technologies and technologies for various types of terminals that enable interactive services. It also works on “Personal Video Recorder” (PVR) applications and solutions. The service exploits the metadata in the recordings of TV and mobile transmissions in the automatic storage of TV programmes and in the use of the stored material.

The aim is to facilitate the production of transmissions and services that adapt to different types of TV and radio applications and also to increase the user-friendliness of consumer electronics by adding to the TV transmissions metadata that describes the content.

Prewise Finland Oy is the Finnish participant in this Dutch-led project. The rest of Europe is represented by the following: Philips, Thomson, Inria, Universities of Vigo and Madrid, Stoneroos NL, Eindhoven University of Technology, CWI-Amsterdam, Henri Tudor Centre and ETRI (Korea).

What is ITEA?

ITEA* (Information Technology for European Advancement) is a pan-European cluster project which uses cooperation between businesses to develop software solutions for general use. The cluster project spans eight years (1999-2007). Each year an application round is organized for new participants.

The focus is on industrial software technologies and solutions. The application areas include data communication, wireless services, consumer electronics, transport tools and other products and services with extensive software usage.

ITEA is part of the European cooperation network, the EUREKA initiative, which was originally created in support of European cooperation based on the needs of enterprise. In line with this principle, ITEA projects comprise industry-led joint ventures which always include at least two companies from two different countries. Currently, membership of EUREKA comprises 33 European countries and the EU, which is represented in EUREKA by the Commission.
